First Look at the Decks & Shipping Cost Update

My dear backers,
Due to an unfortunate oversight on my part, no shipping costs were charged during the entire Red Roses Kickstarter campaign. I know this is unexpected, so I’d like to briefly explain what happened and how we’ll move forward.
Earlier this year, Kickstarter introduced a new pledge manager system. Creators can choose to use it or continue working with the classic setup. I decided against the new system because it applies different VAT rules depending on the backer’s country, which would have led to very inconsistent final prices - especially for those of you who backed larger bundles.
When setting up the rewards, I was shown a new section with “estimated shipping costs” for each country instead of the usual shipping fields. I assumed this was part of Kickstarter’s update and that the final amounts would be calculated and charged after the campaign.
So I selected “charge shipping post-campaign,” believing Kickstarter would automatically collect the actual shipping fees later on.
Only afterwards did I learn that this option only works if the creator activates the new pledge manager or uses a third-party service to collect the fees. Since I intentionally opted out of Kickstarter’s pledge manager, the system displayed the estimated shipping costs during checkout - but never charged them.
Long story short: the solution is BackerKit.

Production Update & New Shipping Timeline

My dear backers,
The decks have been in production for several days now, and I'd like to share a clear update on where we stand.
Both the Red Roses and the Black Roses White Gold Foil Edition will be printed on a slightly thinner paper stock than originally planned, resulting in a beautiful thin crushed feel. This change became necessary after a well-known American playing card company ordered 200,000 decks using the 300gsm German Black Core Paper. According to my WJPC representative, this caused the entire supply of that paper stock to be sold out across the Chinese market until spring 2026. I received this information only after the campaign ended.
I just thought, no problem - let's switch to 310gsm. But once all files were approved, WJPC told me that 310gsm is not ideal for hot foil stamping, as the foil cannot fully settle into the air pockets of the linen finish, which could cause visible imperfections. I'm very glad this was caught early - it prevented a quality issue we would only have discovered once the decks were already printed.
Two alternative paper stocks were offered, and I immediately requested samples. After testing both, I chose the one that felt best to me.
These unexpected adjustments have brought us to a new timeline. If everything continues smoothly, the decks will be completed by mid-December. Once production is finished and the shipments head to my US fulfillment partner and to me here in Germany for direct fulfillment, we're now aiming to begin shipping toward the end of January.

Production Begins

My dear backers,
The cards have finally been approved for production. It took a little longer than expected - every time I thought we are ready, tiny issues kept popping up, pushing the whole process day by day. But after several tweaks and final checks we're officially good to go!
The printer designer arranged the order of the marked backs incorrectly. Fortunately, I noticed this error, but this alone delayed the entire process by a whole week. To prevent any further errors with regard to the backs, I had to create a completely new file for the designer in which the front and back sides are directly next to each other.
As soon as I receive new information from production, I will of course let you know.

Awaiting Proofs

My dear backers,
The Red Roses have already been 50% paid for, and I'm currently just waiting for the digital proofs. Due to China's National Day holiday, everything has taken a bit longer than expected, but aside from this slight delay, everything is going according to plan. As soon as I receive the proofs, you will of course be the first to know.
The Red Rose magnets arrived a few days ago, and I'm absolutely thrilled with the result.

Road to Fulfillment - Key Milestones
Here's an overview of our project timeline:
September 24: I'll receive your funds.
Shortly After: Payment is made to our printing partner.
Production & Shipping: Approximately 4 weeks for production, followed by 4-6 weeks for shipping.
Fulfillment: Expected to begin in December.
Based on these milestones, I expect fulfillment to begin in December. Please keep in mind that the holiday season may cause slight delays, so some rewards might not reach you until January. Once you've filled out the survey, just sit back and relax - I'll keep you posted with regular updates along the way.
